My sensational April beauty favorites -Makeup and skincare edition

Spring is nearly here and April is already over. God, it has gone by quickly! This month was intense and kind of different for me. I lived in Jordan, got certified to teach Spanish, began working as a ukulele teacher and started this blog. Even though I have been busy, I had the time to try some new products, which have now become some of my favorites.

Recently my eating hasn’t been the greatest and my skin has suffered the consequences. That is why I am working on a healthier lifestyle which includes deep face cleaning and taking care of myself in every possible way.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water

This takes us to one of my favorite products that I started using in April. The Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water. My mother bought for me this Maxi format as a Christmas present but I left it inside one of my bathrooms cupboards until a few weeks ago. If you are somewhat something like me, you may not know what micellar water is (I know, it is hard to believe that I haven’t been living under a rock for the past year).

Well, the best way to describe it is as a skin product made out of water solution containing micelles. These are tiny molecules that attract oils and grime, which is why they have become so popular as skincare cleaners.

Micellar Water - Garnier Skinactive

The best part of all is its price. offers it in travel size for about $3.50 which is perfect if you want just to see if it works well for you. You can also find it in almost every supermarket, pharmacy or beauty store so it will not be difficult to find it if you haven’t tried it yet.

Right now I am adoring this product. It is so refreshing and quick to use (just apply some solution to a cotton pad and gently rub it on your skin) that it’s really helpful when I get home late and don’t want to spend a lot of time getting rid of my makeup.

If you are an internet research-lover as I am, you will discover that there are a lot of people stating that cleaning your face just with micellar water is not enough to eliminate every particle that can be found in your face. Therefore, I wanted to buy a face scrub to wash away any rests.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Daily Scrub

I have a pretty sensitive skin and most of the scrubs that I try give me some kind of rash or at least a nasty acne throughout my jaw. For that reason, I decided to consult my cousin, who is a pharmacist, on which product I should use. Her list was pretty short (just 3 items) and the top one there was the Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Daily Scrub. This brand is the #1 recommended by dermatologists, so why not give it a try?

I thought it would turn out for me as any other scrub, but, oh, wasn’t I wrong. When I used it for the first time I completely fell in love with it. Your skin feels so fresh and clean that you will want to use it every single day and your face will thank me.

The description given on the Neutrogena website explains it all. With short phrases like “The exhilarating way to cleanse deeply,” or “A surge of invigoration leaves behind thoroughly cool, cleansed and energized skin” I was convinced that this was the best choice. Also, if you are concerned about animal testing in facial products, worry no more. The company doesn’t conduct animal testing of their cosmetic products anywhere in the world (except in rare cases where is compulsory by law) which was also a plus for me.

The only problem I can see with this product is that it is complicated to find. I bought it in a local pharmacy in Amman, Jordan, and while writing this post I discovered that the product was designed for Neutrogena’s Middle East branch. Online I have just found it on Amazon, but they offer it in a Pack of 2 for $29.99 plus a $9.99 shipping fee. A good substitute would be this Deep Clean Invigorating Foaming Face Scrub, also by Neutrogena, which is on Amazon for less than $6. I haven’t tried it, but I believe is the American version of my facial scrub.

L’Occitane Pivoine Flora Hand Cream

My hands suffer a lot throughout the day: washing dishes, frantically writing on my computer, organizing my clothes or even just gesturing when talking to my friends. All of these activities dry our hands, and not too many people are used to applying hand cream on a daily basis. Again it was my mother who introduced me to this product. She loves floral creams (for both hands and body) and when she once used this one in front of me I was amazed by the smell. As I was so excited about it, she gave me hers to finish it (that is why the package in the picture is not the most updated one in the market) and then I bought another one just a few weeks later. If you love peonies (who doesn’t?) this is a fabulous choice for you.

It is super soft and not oily at all (which is something I don’t normally enjoy about hand creams). It is absorbed super quickly and the size is perfect to carry in your bag or if you are planning to travel by plane (it is ok to take it inside your carry on). Even though it could sound a bit expensive (about $12 on Amazon) I will buy it again whenever this one is finished.

Rituals Pink Chestnut lipstick and MAC Matte Studded Kiss Lipstick

I don’t usually wear lipstick, but when I do, I normally use darker tones as my skin is tanned all year round. My go-to brand is usually MAC as it has a huge variety of colors for every skin tone and lipstick sits in place for long periods of time before fading away.

This time I went crazy and as well as the MAC Matte Studded Kiss Lipstick I bought the Pink Chestnut lipstick from Rituals.

Mac and rituals lipsticks

Let’s start with MAC. This lipstick has a dark earthy plumbed tone that goes perfectly with any outfit I choose whenever I go out at night. As it is kind of dark I haven’t worn it on daytime, but the color is fantastic for any evening plan. I have to say that my sister loved it so much that she bought the same one for herself.

Being someone who never (and I mean never) wears lipstick as a daily product, I didn’t think I would find one that would obsess me, but the one from Rituals has. I am surprised at how much I love it. Normally I buy my body scrub and soap at this brand, but I had never got any makeup from there. It was on sale when I saw it in the store and the color was super natural and cute so I had to buy it and now I can’t live without it.

CH from Carolina Herrera

And to end with, a good classic. I used to use this perfume when I was studying in college, but I completely forgot about it until a month ago, when I needed a new fragrance. It was launched in 2007 and its sophisticated and floral scent made it a complete success. I normally use it on special occasions but it is perfect to wear daily.

I have tried throughout the years a lot of different perfumes but without any doubt, this is one of my favorites. You can smell it for hours but it is not overwhelming at all and I am pretty happy about that.  I really don’t know why I stopped using it, but I am glad I found it again.

So, there you have it, my April beauty favorites. Have you tried any of these? What do you think about them? Are there any new products that you want me to try and post a review? Let me know it down in the comments.

See ya next time! 🙂
